Riad has delivered a technical presentation discussing the experience of Al Khaleej Sugar Refinery in eliminating of 11 buffer tanks from the process of sugar during the seventy second annual technical meeting of Sugar Industry Technologists 2013 held in Zwangzho in China. The elimination of buffer tanks at the low brix side of the refinery has not affected the refinery throughput capacity as per the previous thinking .

The main subject was about the installation of the large diameters of Glass Reinforced Polyester Pipes ( DN 4000 mm ) and what are the precausions that shall be taken during the installation along with the required technips and machines. These large bore diameters need special equipments for installation and testing but still they are much cheaper than the equipments used for the CS and concrete pipes as the GRP is lighter than the CS by 6 times and lighter than the concrete by 10 times.

All the standards of such application are still in the development and improvement stages, however the composite material has proven its capability to solve fundamental issue related to the strength with light weight and as well as the corrosion issue. The KFUPM was interesting in introducing this material in their education program and link the same to the practical field.
