But if you must be without one, be without the strategy

Riad has delivered a technical presentation discussing the experience of Al Khaleej Sugar Refinery in eliminating of 11 buffer tanks from the process of sugar during the seventy second annual technical meeting of Sugar Industry Technologists 2013 held in Zwangzho in China. The elimination of buffer tanks at low brix side of the refinery has not affected the refinery throughput capacity as per the previous thinking. On contrary, it has shown various operational and economical benefits including:

    • Reduction in refinery volumetric capacity

    • Smoothening of pH variations

    • Reduction of temperature drop from Carbonators to GAC

    • Gain in refining lead time ( faster overall refining process )

    • Minimizing sucrose loss

    • Power saving due to the utilization of VFD.

Hence , the title question can be answered that we do not need all the numerous buffer tanks available in each sugar refinery ; they could be easily removed without affecting the refining process .
